“Leading hair transplant surgeon from Hair Transplant Institute¸ shares, FUE techniques deliver natural, nearly scarless results. Hair surgery that restores real, growing hair which makes it a popular choice for hair transplant surgery”. After undergoing the process would you be able to hop on a plane is a very common question. Thought the surgery is minimally invasive, but it is still a surgery and it comes with a few risks and restrictions while recovering. If you are wondering whether you would be allowed to fly or not, then we are here to clear your doubts.
Can you take a flight after the surgery?
This might come as a revelation, but there is no restriction on flying, walking or driving. But after the surgery, you can’t swim bike or run. After going through cosmetic surgery procedures, you might be adviced to avoid flying for a certain period. If one has been under general anaesthesia for a while, then the patients might be advised against flying as it could increase the risk of blood clots. However, in the case of hair transplant, general anaesthesia is not used and the process is less invasive, the risks that you face while flying have less to do with the pressure of the cabin and more to do with you accidentally hitting the sensitive region of your head. We are not always conscious of how often we bump our head every day, but after the surgery, one needs to be vigilant about it.
Other concerns regarding air travel after surgery:
The pressure of the air cabin is lesser than the pressure on the ground. This could make the swelling slightly worse. In case you have undergone an extensive implant and donor incisions, then they might feel more sensitive than usual. In such a situation, make sure that you take your post-operation pain medication and do not consume any blood thinners which are not needed. NSAID medicines and alcohol are some of the blood thinners that you should avoid as they could make the incisions worse. Avoid alcoholic beverage on the flight, as it could cause the incisions to bleed easily.
Travelling, in general, can be stressful. If you have a tight schedule paired with physical discomfort or even anxiety, then the travel becomes even more stressful. Travelling for hair transplant can make it difficult for you to unwind and relax, during or after the procedure. It is always better to take an extra day to rest and discuss with your surgeon the post-operation care which can help you to de-stress and catch up on your much-needed rest.
In case, you are planning to go on a vacation right after the surgery, then it is better to discuss that with your surgeon and make a list of things you can do and you can’t do so that your recovery goes on as planned and your plans are not derailed.
